Choosing the right bedding for your baby is one of the most important and enjoyable things you will ever do as a mom. Whether you are expecting or that little one is already here, baby bedding is sure to be at the top of your shopping list. Baby bedding will be at the center of your nursery and nothing should prevent you from choosing from the best bedding available as long as you can afford it.

Of course the sex of your baby will determine the color scheme you choose - the dominant theme for girls being pink, and the dominant one for boys being blue. For boys, you can choose from a similar wide array of colors and patterns. Light blue and light green are great colors for boys. These are gentle on the eyes and tend to give a calming effect. Of course you can go for the florals also, but try to stick to earth tones such as brown or even beige. A good idea is to slowly switch from one color choice or pattern or theme as your child move through the different stages of growth. Doing this in a planned manner will save you a lot time and even money as you will know beforehand what choices to make when purchases and not just make purchases based on your original theme or color. There are also themed bedding for boys -- such as the jungle, cowboys and sports.

Try to think a few years out into the future when your child gets more mature and may even begin to identify with the theme around them. So apart from colors, there is also the issue of character themes to think about when it comes to picking bedding for your baby.

Finally, an important aspect to consider is the type of material itself. Does your child have any particular allergies that would be triggered by a certain type of material? If so, this is going to be one of the factors driving your choice of bedding. Stay away from material that attract or trap a lot of dust. Read labels carefully on how to care for the material and the type of material used. Remember this is the safety factor so pay close attention here. Most of all, have fun and enjoy the decorating aspect.
