Ibanez GRG170DX

Well to start off i feel on my home turf here because the GRG is not only a cool, swish, amazing guitar. It's also my guitar. So i feel very easy to write about my new toy of destruction.

So lets start with the basics. Everyone knows its not the top dog, in fact, giving its price tag its more of the cheap efficient way to rock your socks off. Bought buy itself it is £169.99 and in a gig pack it is £195.00 (This includes a amplifier, strap, picks, tuner, the lot is thrown in). The amp isn't the best kit around, and the strap is pretty crap too.

How the GRG is probably the cheapest Ibanez on the market. Made for really beginners for guitar or newcomers to Ibanez.

The neck is made from GRG1 maple and the body is made from basswood. The frets are medium and it has a Fat 10 Bridge.

Colour of the hardware is chrome (trust me, it makes it look the dogs bollocks).

The switching system (taken from www.Ibanez.com) shows its easy controls. Its a 5 way switch plate with one tone control.

How it plays? It really is the daddy. After i strung it up and riffed out to some dire straits (in front of my friend) i was instantly impressed. It gave me this warm, sensational feeling that, i, would now feel godly like whenever this beauty of an axe fell into my hands.

I tried it out with the Ibanez amp (go figure the Ibanez amp really sucked), but when I got home, plugged it straight into my other amp, waited until my house was clear and full volume it went. It gave off the most meanest sound imaginable.

However with only 21 frets I was limited, but looking over my shoulder now and seeing the black beast, with chrome all over and the white shark tooth imprints on the neck i really do stop and wonder, should it really be about 200 quid?.

However the pickups aren't the best in the world, but they are good. Maybe take em out and put in a few dimarzio pickups could make it sound better.

Also i have a bit of a problem with i tune down a step from E to D as the G string *known as when tuned in E* doesn't sound particularly good *well i say never able to put perfectly in tune* when i tune it down to F. However it just might need properly setting up.

But i rate my GRG 9.5/10.

If you're new to guitar, or new to Ibanez, grab your self a GRG!!!
That's all I can recommend!
