When I was growing up around the Orange County, California area life was easy. We had a great house that my father had practically paid off and I had a wonderful mother who was truly an amazingly resourceful chef. She' could create delicious, three-course meals out of whatever she could find in the refrigerator. This talent became very important after my father died and my mother had to work twice as hard to keep the ever-growing stomachs of my 2 brothers and I full.
