It is worth mentioning here that Sikkim has witnessed a tremendous change in social, political and economic sphere since one decade. Whether each individual population of Sikkim is at par with the development or not, unconformity is still is prevalent.
We have seen that the government is quite flexible in the augmentation of various schemes in Sikkim. When it comes to official procedures regarding the budget estimates, draft plan and sanction of any work, there is a bizarre man made system in offices which is perhaps, not framed by the government. One has to pay the supervisor for visiting the site, pay the engineer who prepares the estimate, pay the draftsman who prepares the plan, pay everybody who is associated with the consignment and when the work finally executes, pay the officials in the accounts which finally grant the cheque. Kudos, you are driving Sikkim towards the vision of development that the Chief Minister has dreamt.
We are reading in newspapers everyday that several anti social activities are thriving in Sikkim starting from drug menace to girls trafficking, from drunken driving and fatal road accidents, from thefts to burglaries and towards the rise of commercial & flying sex workers, bombarding rise in increase of HIV infected persons. It may sound breaking news for many but there is hardly a least population that is bothered about these. Our sisters, daughters are now call girls and our brothers are now pimps and agents. Time will come when we have to adapt ourselves to take pride in the demise of our family members who died of AIDS. I request the law enforcing agencies to patrol the hotels, not only the streets. We smoke at public places and hotels though it is banned, no one dares to complain when somebody is seen smoking at places where it is banned. Logically speaking, law and order is violated every now and then in Sikkim and we blame the government to which we are instinctively capacitated. Shame.
In my entire life, I never heard of any appraisals and suggestions to the government in power by any political organizations in the state. Truly speaking, the political development in Sikkim is in sorry state. The political ideologies are fused into personal rivalry, interpersonal gains etc. Every issue related to state’s development is always given a political touch, but no politicians turn up with reviews, suggestions and modifications. Where we are heading for?
We abandon the saplings planted this year. We again carry plantation on the same place next year. The road conditions in the villages are deplorable, but we never care about how the restoration works are carried out. Is it being carried out on the basis of specifications laid down by the concerned department? Do the concerned authorities really satisfied with the progress of the work being carried out? Please everybody, put your hands on the chest and look back, you will see only the gray sides. Sounds great.
I hope if the views I expressed here are taken for granted, I hope there will be no repercussion on mending our ways. We all need a change in the system, the system that will change Sikkim the better way.
