A wheelchair-bound gunman who turned the Christmas holiday into a frightful ordeal for a small community in western Virginia, has surrendered, police say.
An as-yet-unidentified man had taken several hostages in a post office in the town of Wytheville, according to local reports. Although it was initially believed that there were five hostages, several of those people believed to be inside were later located outside, according to the Associated Press.
A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Inspection service says shots were fired, but no injuries reported. The man demanded pizza and drinks, but otherwise requested nothing else.
According to swvatoday.com, police on the scene reported seeing the man with five pounds of C-4 plastic explosives, which were strapped to his wheelchair.
