Attitude of Search Engines towards Directory Links:

At the beginning of this informational technology search engines were not available. Directories are the only one way to find information. Yahoo is the pioneer to make these directories a new form. Through their search engines it became more easier to search directories. Though all search engines follow more or less same kind of techniques but there differenc in some few aspects. Now search engines are using different methods like ranking a page in terms of number of pages, traffic, key words, key words density, gradual update and many more.  These factors along with some other factors determine the page ranking while searching information. All search engines have a different attitude towards the directory links. For example, Google has a different way to rank directories; on the other hand search engines like yahoo and Msn look over all kinds of low and high ranked directories.

In Google a new site which contains only one page and has around 50 directory links got a ranking of 2. Two weeks after starting to building links for that site the sites ranking went higher – it topped among the ten.  But After two months of in active period it lost its ranking as there was no additional new link. But when the site started to grow again the ranking improved in a very slow pace. Like Google Msn also shows too quick action against every site. Sometimes it works more quickly than Google. Unlike Google other search engines like yahoo doesn’t show so quick reaction. You could stay at the same ranking almost five months without building too quick links.

Some sites that ranked Number one in all major search engines do not work well in google. But this problem can be solved if the site shows a consistency in linked building. But sometimes SEOs were very poorly paid and if it is not then the service could be better and sites also can be developed rapidly. The resources and services needed for this job count a lot.  Directories which will show direct link will be the most helpful and useful. Otherwise it will not help to get traffic.

Relevancy of directories:

 All directories don’t work in a same way. A site will not do a good business if it is not extensively presented or have a huge influence. These days, a good number of people are presenting and submitting different type of information and they are covering a huge array of topics. So, it has become obvious to improve the quality of contents which will be rich in key words. Another important aspect is having key words which are really creditable for the link.

More over there are some paid directories that do not pay much attention to background. It is very important to let people know about the importance and usefulness of the site. Another, disadvantage of these directories is they are highly prone to spam.

At the beginning of this business it was very easy to get links from other sites. But now situation has changed and it’s not so easy like before. Now blogs that are based on different topics are getting more traffic than directories.

However, an important evolution of this business is filtering duplicate content. It will help the original pages to have more traffic. They also improved in some other aspects like filtering sites that are prone to spam. But still they are not cent percent successful as it doesn’t work for sites which are based on ultra niche.  This system works best with some social book marking sites.

The reason for doing poor business:

A lot of reasons can be counted for the down fall of this business. The following features are the most important factors:

v       Special formatting does not count a big bold graphic header. Bold header or logo can draw the attention of visitors but not by the search engines. As the text in this kind of header is not counted by them.

Significance of Directory Links:

In some aspects some directories are efficient or can be preferred than any old link. Other than google some other search engines do not care about the medium and low ranking directories. Some links and directories help to get more traffic without polluting the profile of your link. They also work against other links or those who are your competitors to see how you are struggling with what kind of links.
