The president of Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. will explain the automaker's efforts to improve the safety of its cars at a U.S. congressional hearing today, according to a report from Market Watch.
James Lentz is expected to share that safety improvements include equipping all Toyota cars by the end of 2010 with a brake override system that automatically reduces engine power when drivers apply the gas and brakes at the same time, according to the report.
Lentz also is expected to say that Toyota hasn't found any flaws with its electronic throttle control system. Toyota, which operates a North American headquarters in Erlanger, has fixed 70 percent of the 2.3 million vehicles recalled over gas pedal problems and 30 percent of the 5.4 million recalled for floor mat trouble, according to the report.
