Youtube Killed Television, Your Life Could Benefit
"Youtube Killed Television, Your Life Could Benefit" written by Mike Kirby
Times are changing, let's face it, seemingly television is losing the battle when it comes to occupying the world's attention. If you're fimilar with the Buggle's hit, "Video Killed the Radio Star", they should make a reunion album to have another hit entitled,"Youtube Killed Television". Computers in the average home are outpacing television, matter of fact, they are becoming one in the same. Who would have ever thought three guys from San Mateo, California would take such a cool idea and revolutionize the world with a platform called Youtube. I bet there are millions of people thinking every second.... man, I would have loved to come up with that idea. An idea that sold for US$1.65 billion dollars in October 2006 to none other than Google, a modern day giant. Today in the year 2010, I was reflecting on the union of the these two gigantic platforms and came to the conclusion it can only mean one thing.....exposure for the little guy.
I have been using, dreaming, and repairing computers since Radio Shack first squeaked out a model with the monochrome display and floppy drive that I remember I drooled to touch. I always knew computers were going somewhere but never had I wrapped my mind around the connectivity of today. Computers have also become a touch and go experience for most of us. We use them in our daily lives but after awhile they can become like a toaster oven. A device such as an appliance you put something in, it does something, and you get something out. This is not the case with Youtube. It is the worldwide penny tray at a huge convenience store that everyone takes a penny from when in need of entertainment, instruction, and recognition. The world has watched hidden talents be discovered that otherwise would have went unnoticed. Talents that would have been entertaining but only to much smaller audiences with much less success.
These internet platforms, Youtube and Google, have given the little guys/girls of this world like you and me the chance to alter our lives forever. I have watched Youtube, since its birth, for entertainment not knowing there was another side to Youtube until I discovered their partnership program. Youtube and Google are both search engines and search engines love traffic. You and me watching for amusement, information, and other stuff at times we think is free makes the information superhighway buzz with activity. Whats for sale is not always the primary focus of success, much to my ignorant surprise, web traffic is. The little guys like you and me stand to win in two ways: exploit a talent and get recognized, or be entertaining/interesting in doing your own thing. The second part is where the partnership comes in. Happiness for most of us is doing our own thing and say by doing this in your journey you acquired tons of traffic(views of your video) maybe even have faithful followers(subscribers also return traffic), you could then apply for a the Youtube partnership. When you apply for a partnership and you have successfully met their criteria, you could become a Youtube partner. Partnership means compensation, time, and maybe freedom for what some may call simple.
Becoming a Youtuber has become a rewarding way of life for some and they couldn't imagine themselves doing anything else. Considering Youtube recently reached its five year anniversary, I had the opportunity to watch countless video of those youtubers expressing gratititude to the giant that gave us little guys the freedom to enjoy life. One of the rewards to doing your own thing is freedom and guess what...freedom can be simple. If your interested in finding ways to simplify your life or just interested, http://www.simplejoes.com
