LOVE MARRIAGE VS. ARRANGED MARRIAGES

Love marriage is the only way a marriage should be fixed. Best judge of suitability of a groom and his bride are the parties to the marriage viz. the man and woman to be married. The very concept of arranged marriages is disgusting. This is not a question of success or failure. every one makes mistakes. Love marriage is proper even if not successful. Arranged marriage is highly disgusting notion regardless of failure and success. Arranged marriage is corelated with child marriages still held in places like Rajasthan. This is obvious that marriage can be only arranged one when children are married. However this is disgusting that others should decide whom an adult should marry quite often on basis of family and business interests, caste/ ghotra, horoscopic and astrological predictions. There is no guarantee that a love marriage will be a success. similarly there is no guarantee that arranged marriage will be a success. Whatever be the consequences, the adults should be free to select their life partners through mutual consent. Arranged marriages are just business deals between families and these are associated with dowry and caste. Arranged marriages are like cattle trade. The world over, the adults are free to choose their life partners without any intervention. Among Indians, particularly, it appears that marriage is between families and business establishments rather than a man and woman. We are reminded of ancient epic times when marriages were a means to establish relations between various kingdoms. Love marriage is likely to eliminate caste, creed and regional differences and also to serve as a check aginst dowry system/

Posted 731 days ago Shahaban, that is a perspective I don't hear very often. I have a lot of Indian friends and the funny thing is, the NRIs in the UK and Australia and even Canada are willing to try arranged marriages with other middle class Indians of the same ethnicity and caste, but resident Indians are increasingly going for love marriages. Not being Indian and encountering the phenomenon amongst Desi friends it makes me wonder whether things like matrimonial websites are not just another more techie form of arranged marriages
