Jewelry Box Woodworking Plan

Building your own jewelry box is a simple craft project if you have a woodworking plan complete with a list of panel sizes and materials. You can easily assemble the wood panels for your jewelry box with glue and finishing nails, and then decorate it to fit your room's decor.

    Woodworking Materials

  1. To make a simple jewelry box with a hinged lid, you'll need wood panels for the sides and bottom of the box and wood panels for the lid. To make an 18-by-12-by-8-inch jewelry box, you'll need 10 separate 1/2-inch-thick wood panels. For the base of the box, cut one panel 17 inches long by 11 inches wide. Two of the side panels should measure 12 by 6 inches wide, and two should measure 17 by 6 inches wide. For the lid, you'll need to cut one panel measuring 18 by 12 inches wide, two strips measuring 12 by 2 inches wide and two strips measuring 18 by 2 inches wide. Two hinges are all you need to secure the lid to the box.

    Assembly

  2. Begin assembling your jewelry box by attaching the four side panels perpendicular to the edge of the base panel. Run a bead of wood glue around the outside perimeter, make sure your edges are flush and then attach the wood together with finishing nails or wood screws. The wood is 1/2-inch thick and when you add the sides to the bottom panel, you'll have a finished measurement of 18 by 12 inches. Assemble the lid of your jewelry box the same way, but attach the strips around the inside edge of your lid panel. Consider using L brackets rather than finishing nails if you would prefer a smooth lid with no visible nails or screws. Attach the two hinges to the inside rim of the top and to the matching inside edge of the back side of your box.

    Decoration

  3. You can stain or paint your jewelry box to match your bedroom decor and then transform it into a work of art with embellishments like sea shells, cabochons, vintage jewelry or decorative paint techniques. You might also like to decoupage photos or make a picture collage on the lid for a personalized jewelry box. Strong craft glue like E-6000 or clear Liquid Nail will hold just about anything to the wood of your box, so get creative with your jewelry box decorations.
