More than 3 million children graduate from their respective high schools all over United States each year. Most of us spend a significant rime each year between the last week of May and mid of June attending different graduation parties in different parts of the country. Though this time of celebration can be quite exciting, especially for the new graduate, but it can be extremely exhausting for the person planning the party for their loved one. Here are some tips to make the task of planning a graduation party simpler and more efficient.

Choose the type of party

The very first decision you need to make while planning a graduation party is to decide on the kind of party you wish to have. Big families that have lots of friends sometimes decide to host two individual events, one for friends of the teenager and the other for the extended family. Now, some graduates and their family prefer to host formal dinner parties, whereas other like the idea of fun backyard barbecue, appetizer buffer or potluck dinner. Open house is another good option for having a graduation celebration.

Draft a Plan

Before you start sending out the graduation announcements, you first need to make certain other decisions such as who will plan the entire party. Some graduates prefer to be part of the planning, whereas others leave it on their parents and just want to have a good time. Discuss with your teen what they prefer and then proceed with the planning.

Time and Date

Till now, the actual graduation day continues to be the most popular date for having the graduation party as well. However, you can be different and choose a different date to avoid the rush due to multiple parties. However, if you do decide to have it on the graduation day, consider having an open house to give the guests liberty to drop by according to their convenience.

Party Location

A large number of families choose to have their parties outdoors, in their backyards, in a park, or on the beach. Few other good location options include community meeting rooms, restaurants, and churches. Decide the location according to the number of your guests as well as their convenience.

The Guest List

It is essential to plan your guest list before you can order and send out the invitations. Some obvious guests include family members, extended family, friends of the teen, and family friends. Many people also invite acquaintance from social organizations and neighbors as well.

Choosing, Ordering and Sending Invitations

Many schools offer graduation invitation along with announcements for their students. However, if you are more creative, you can make the invitations yourself or get them from an online vendor. You can choose the invitation in the school colors of the teen, or one that matches your party theme, or get a customized one made with the picture of your graduate wearing the faculty regalia.

The basic information that you need to print on the invitation is name of the graduate, party date and time, and venue. You can also add the school’s name, class, and RSVP request. Make sure to mail the invitations 3 weeks in advance to allow out-of-towners to make arrangements.
