Video game systems keep getting more and more sophisticated, and nowhere is this more apparent than with Microsoft's newest project. Microsoft pushed their way into the gaming industry with the Xbox, and it came out to generally positive reviews, especially since it had a few strong games behind it (like Halo). Now, Microsoft is trying to introduce something even bigger than their first console, and it is known as Kinect.

For a long time, Kinect was known as Project Natal, as that was the name Microsoft wanted to call it before revealing the actual title. The news came out at the Xbox 360 E3 Press Conference, and in addition to saying the name, Microsoft gave some information about the system itself. Just by the sound of it, Kinect seems like it will be one of the most innovative technologies in the field of motion sensor gaming.

There have been attempts at things like this before, and the Playstation 2 notably had the EyeToy, which has some similarities to Kinect. In addition, Nintendo's Wii is largely centered around motion sensors, but there is still a controller present. With what Microsoft has come up, there is no controller, and you control the game purely through your body movements and voice. Due to this feature, the device is also very easy to learn how to use, enabling Microsoft to attract a lot of new gamers to their brand and strengthen the market penetration of the Xbox. The Wii was able to gain a lot of non-gamers because of the motion controls, and Microsoft is going for the same demographic.
