Whenever someone has worked hard to learn what is required so they can say that they have earned a degree then they are very proud to cross the stage in front of family and friends, wearing graduation tassels on their mortar board caps and long robes. They are pleased to shake the hands of such officials as the dean of schools, or the department heads in the different fields in which they studied. This is their shining moment in the sun when they share with the entire world the fact that they went to school and they did what was required. The physical documentation of the graduation diplomas they receive for having accomplished these learning requirements are worth more to them at that moment than all of the gold in California.

Getting that certificate means they can enter the work force doing a job they want to do. They went to college and sacrificed so much of their time and their freedom so when they began life in the working world they could start in a position that will lead to a bright future. Many of the people that you see gaining these certifications could not afford the education and went into the military first so they would have the funding to pay for them to become educated in their field of choice. They really did sacrifice six to eight years of their life so they could prepare for the rest of their lives.

Without one of those pieces of paper that say you are an expert in a particular field then you are qualified to start your life in the workforce as a minimum wage employee. You can still advance in some careers but you are not going to make it all the way to the very top and for every position you gain you will have had to work, fight, and sweat your way to get there. There will be no easy street and it will even be a long time before you have a position that has paid vacations or holidays. You have to earn those by proving what you are worth to the company.

If you leave a college with a piece of paper that says you have been trained in one thing or another you are ready to apply for jobs and negotiate the starting salary. The benefits package will not have to be earned it will be offered as an incentive to get you to work for the company. They will use vacation packages, health insurance, and retirement benefits to get you to sign with them, or to sweeten the pot as they say.

Receiving a piece of paper that says you have been formally educated in something can change the entire course of your life. It can change the quality of life you have and it can change the perception people have of you. Getting those pieces of paper are the single most important things you will ever do for yourself, your family, and your community.
