The Danger of Child Car Seat Defects

There are countless tools and devices that are used to keep children safe. Because children as so vulnerable to injury, it is important that these objects exist for the benefit of the young ones in our lives. Because these tools are used to make children safer it is particularly tragic when the very devices meant to keep them safe end up causing harm.

Common Causes of Child Car Seat Defects

Child car seats exist to utilize a vehicle's safety belt system in order to keep children secure and safe until they are physically large enough to properly use a seat belt by itself. The devices are manufactured for comfort, easy use, and above all, safety. However, often time these child seats can prove to be defective, potentially creating harmful situations for the parents and children making use of the devices. Some common causes of child car seat defects include the following:


  • Manufacturing errors

  • The use of improper or defective materials

  • Improperly testing the device

  • Insufficient testing of the seat before it hits the market

  • Erroneous engineering and design

  • Malfunctioning mechanisms or parts of the chair

  • Failing to disclose information to the public about dangers or risks associated with the chair


Any of these causes can lead to a seat defect. From seats snapping down on the fingers of a child to losing a grip on the seat belt and flying through the cabin of the vehicle, there are a number of tragic incidents that can be caused and influenced by the above defective actions. It is important those responsible for defects are held accountable for their actions.
