In most universities and colleges you are required to arrange for our gowns and robes from the first month of your study period in the university. You can order your academic robes from the university or shops around your campus. You can get a better price directly from your school, as you are the corresponding student, and universities have a better range of colors available that are required by dress code standards.

Gowns purchased from off campus shops are made from materials that are not guaranteed to withstand elements or comfort; however, the university and college shops guarantee their academic robes.  If you not satisfied with the quality, stitching or functionality, you can return it to the university for a new or tailored one. If you are still not satisfied with the services provided, you can approach the administration and file a complaint. But you cannot do anything about regalia purchased from an off-campus shop.

You can find all these things at one spot, no need to run around searching for stuff. There is another advantage in using your university-approved stores; you are offered to purchase stuff in special-priced packages. Buying together robes, badges, belts and the like in pre-packaged can save a great deal of money. You will agree that students are always short of money and resources. Any break from expensive and price cuts will be a welcome reprieve for college students.

From university, you can also purchase used robes and accessories. Most of the seniors or alumnus tend to sell their stuff including: books, notes, research materials and robes designated for commencement. You can purchase gowns from last year’s senior for an inexpensive price, then resell again to help another subsequent struggling student. School shops ensure that these used items are cleaned and maintained to top standards.

Students in academia usually adapt this strategy when they tend to get their hands on graduation gowns and caps. It is not wise to purchase a pair of gowns and caps for your graduation ceremony. You can get a used pair from the university store on subsidized rent. You can use the gown and cap for graduation and later after the ceremony you can return them to the campus store. As a graduating student, you are offered a special discount, so you leave the academic life with good memories – and a good discount in mind. So better hurry and start planning to buy or rent your commencement gown.
