How to prevent infections in home
- Wash your hands before handling foods, before eating, after toileting, before and after any required home care too.
- Use your own personal items such as toothbrush, washcloths and towels.
- Keep your fingernails short, clean and well manicured to eliminate rough edges or hang nails, which can harbor microorganisms.
- Clean used equipment (emesis basin) wtih soap and water and disinfect it with chlorine bleach.
- Wash raw fruits and vegetables before eating them.
- Refrigerate all opened and non-packaged foods.
- Clean obviously soiled linen separately from other laundry. Rinse in cold water, wash in hot water if possible, and add a cup of bleach or Lysol to the wash.
- Place contaminated dressing and other disposable item containing infectious body fluids in moisture proof plastic bags.
- Put used needles in a puncture-resistant container with a screw-top lid. Label so as not discard in the garbage.
- Avoid coughing, sneezing or breathing directly on others. Cover the mouth and nose to prevent the transmisson of airbone microorganism.
