Cell phone VS Love
Cell phone VS Love

You are on a date and the constant buzz of your cell phone is what's on your mind rather than your partner's sweet nothings. Are you planning your next move or wondering what your next tweet is going to be? Do you miss your date's heavy sigh from across the table everytime you fish out your cell phone? What would you choose if it was either your cell phone or your love?

We ask because we came across an interesting project called My Phone Is Off For You which focuses on the significance of turning off your phone to spend some quality time, trying to focus on what's in front of you rather than letting yourself wander into the world outside (read: the internet), while with your special someone!

Here's what a couple of iDiva regulars had to say:

"I prefer to keep my cell phone switched off while on a date. I have done it in the past and I like it when we are together and nobody can reach us! Also, it keeps pesky friends who are out to ruin your date at bay!" - Anish B, 19, student

"It really depends. Like, to impress the girl I may act smart and switch off my phone, but what if the world is falling apart and people are trying to reach me? Obviously I would never tweet or reply to my emails while on a date. Unless it is something really, really important." -Chaitanya Dhanpal, 23, IT professional

"I tweet. Like almost every 10 minutes or so. And I'd like to do so even on a date! What if the date is extremely boring? Or what if he himself is using his phone? Most of us do, and it is no big deal these days! Plus cell phones help during those moments of 'the famous awkward silence' that haunt you on dates!" -Rochelle Tauro, 21, content writer

"Are you insane? I will never switch my cell phone completely off while on a date. What century are we living in for our partners to expect that from us?! I may not receive calls and sit and chatter away to glory while he is with me, but checking my phone and sending short messages has never hurt anyone." -Tracy Alvares, 18, media student

"I'll switch my cell phone off while on a date. Come to think of it, it is the easiest way to escape nosy friends and nagging parents who want to know where and with whom you are and what you are doing and so on! Plus, it'll seem like I'm giving my girl undivided attention!" -Rahul A, 28, Musician

"Usually, on a date, I don't check my phone when he is around. I excuse myself to go to the washroom and check my messages or make important calls. I agree with the study. It is annoying. Imagine you sitting and stirring your soup while your partner is discussing office gossip over the phone." - Ishani M, 26, Professor

"If the date is getting rather boring, I will shamelessly peep into my phone every now and then to send the message across to her. If it is an interesting date, I doubt it'll even want to check on what's happening in the world around!" -Krish Makhija, 20, Media Student.
