VoIP - Internet and Phone As One

Your internet and local phone can actually work as one functional entity. There is this new thing called Voice over Internet Protocol that works as a phone but uses the internet to function its properties. It is just as equally efficient as your regular phone but it costs way cheaper than the lines you are paying for. This is the age of popular internet conferences and VOIP as it is commonly known is one form of phone conference through the use of the internet.

A modem is needed to facilitate this connection. As opposed to having your phone lines connected physically to the walls as we have been accustomed to see, your phone is now connected to a modem which basically looks like a box. You can buy this gadget personally and hook your phone and computer yourself but mostly this device is provided by the company from whom you subscribe your VoIP service from. The fast efficiency and results of using your voice over internet protocol is directly dependent on the speed of your internet. Having broadband internet service greatly helps the connection of phone and internet function making calls clear and perfect.

VoIP also offers other special services just like any phone subscriber can do and even more. Since this technology is hooked on the internet, it enables other features that local phone companies cannot offer. Additionally, it costs cheaper than the rates you pay for through phone lines. Your monthly bill through phone added features increase if you use these added services often but VoIP technology charges you a fixed monthly rate and proves to be much more economical.

Some of the features include the standard caller ID systems, call waiting and forwarding, voice mail, internet mobile access to your emails and manage your online messages, and local phone number status. The local phone number status is most convenient for business people who are often mobile and need to stay connected. This feature allows the user to have access to a local phone number that he can use wherever he is inter-state or around the world. When he calls a supposedly long-distance number, it is charged at a local rate. If you are used to phone bills, long distance calls cost a huge heap of money but through VoIP, it would seem like you were only calling your next door neighbor. This feature not only works for businesses but also for personal use. For families who are often apart, this is a more cost efficient way to stay connected.

More and more businesses use this technology to conduct their affairs. For multinational companies who have off shore based offices like BPOs, conference calls are often needed to keep the business running and the use of VoIP has greatly affected their productivity by reducing their phone costs significantly and by providing quality lines for conference calls.

The VoIP can also be set up in various phones within a single establishment if you even want to cut more costs. A jack is used to hook more phones but this is usually done individually and not by the service provider.
