Russia vs Americans in Space
March 19th, 2009 Goto comments Leave a comment
In the 1950s, the Russians made one of the biggest leaps in the history of mankind by launching an object into space. It was called Sputnik. This marked the beginning of the age of space exploration and knowledge of the unknown. Soon after, the Soviets launched Yuri Gagarin into space. He became the first man to leave earth in a space capsule. The United States still had yet to catch up. The Americans eventually landed a man on the moon and orbited more men around the earth than the Russians.
The Space Race was over and the United States was the winner. The Russians had failed to put a man on the moon and for all their bragging and scientific knowledge, it had not payed off. But even though the race to the moon was over, there were still other challenges to be met. The Russians and Americans eventually began working together in space. They would rendezvous with each others crafts and work together to meet the challenges of living and working above the surface of the earth. NASA recently announced that by 2020, we should be back on the moon and have a base being set up there. The Russians currently are planning to test rockets capable of flying to the moon.
Who will be the winner this time? Wait and see.
