'Lost' finale disappoints reviewers
Fans who enjoyed the series for its mystery and intellectual stimulation were largely let down by the conclusion, with many critically comparing the finale to a soap opera rather than a drama.
One blogger wrote: "The ending was emotionally satisfying, but not intellectually satisfying. To me the mythology of Lost was a critical element to the appeal of the show, and in the end anyone needing a sense of intellectual closure was left high and dry. Turns out the series was an elaborate soap opera in which the compelling mysteries were just a prop."
A fan writing on Twitter said: "I think the biggest problem with the #lostfinale is that there are two sets of fans: those into the characters and those into the mystery" before adding: "I think that fans of the mystery of the show were the most disappointed."
Others, however, felt that the emotional ending was the perfect way to conclude the story, with some critics arguing that any bombshell explanation of many of the show's unanswered (and unanswerable) questions would undermine the story.
