Bhaktapur Durbar square
Bhaktapur's Durbar Square has far fewer temples and is less crowded than either Kathmandu's or Patan's but it wasn't originally designed that way. The 1934 earthquke destroyed many of them.
This is an image of King Bhupatindra Malla's column and is considered to be the most beautiful of the 3 Durbar Squares. He sits here with folded arms looking onto the golden gate to his palace of 55 windows to the right of the palace. The golden gate is generally agreed to be the most iportant piece of art in the whole valley. [I didn't know this until I read this or I would have taken a much better close-up!!! We had a guide mixup that day so we didn't have the historical/cultural guide with us.
